The first games of the 2024 NCAA Tournament featured No. 16 seed Wagner vs. Howard, and Colorado State vs. Virginia, a 10-seed battle.
Wagner opened March Madness with the first NCAA Tournament win in program history, getting 21 points from Melvin Council Jr. and holding off a second-half rally from Howard to win 71-68 in the First Four.
Colorado State defeated Virginia 67-42 in the second game of the First Four.

dayton flyers basketball
The Flyers season was special for Dayton.
UD finished the season with a 25-8 record and left many great memories for its loyal fans.
The win over Nevada was Dayton's first NCAA Tournament win since 2015. And this comeback is perhaps the best in Dayton's storied basketball history.

Alter defeated Maysville to win the Division II state championship, its fourth state boys basketball title.
“I always tell my players that the moments you work with are memories that will last a lifetime,” Alter coach Eric Coulter said. “They worked hard and I'm so proud of them. It's very difficult to win a state championship, but it's very special.”
Centerville also reached the state finals in DI, but lost 66-56 to Cleveland St. Ignatius, but Preble Shawnee advanced to the D-III state semifinals.

Springboro won 15 straight games to advance to the Division 1 state finals, but lost to Olmsted Falls 52-45.
The only time a women's team played at a state university was in 1978 in Class AA. They defeated Delphos St. John's in the semifinals, but lost for the first time in the final to Columbus Bishop Hartley by two points.
high school swimming
Seniors from Oakwood, Sidney and Beavercreek won gold medals at the state meet.
Oakwood senior Tristan Prizler pairs a personal best time of 4:28.81 in the endurance-testing 500-yard freestyle with a Division II title in the 200-yard individual medley (1:51.29) Obtained with.
Sidney senior Jarrett Payne left the state tournament in Canton with two titles. Payne, who owns all eight of Sidney High School's individual records and seven of the eight league records, ran her personal best time of 47.68 in the Division I 100-yard backstroke. Payne also won the 200-yard IM (1:48.77).
The top of the podium was also a goal for Beavercreek University senior Caleb Manning, who swam to first place in the DI 500-yard freestyle (4:30.12).

Legacy Christian's Dillon Campbell made history by winning his fourth consecutive state wrestling title.
Campbell finished his career with a 169-8 record and will compete collegiately at Virginia Tech.
Other area wrestlers who won state championships were Springboro's Matt Kowalski, Graham's Hayden Hughes, Brogan Tucker and Bryce Kohler.
Graham won his 25th team championship, including his last 23rd in a row.
In the girls' state tournament, Northmont's Lacey Nick won the 125-pound state championship over Greenview's Lily Hendricks.

The Beavercreek boys team overcame a slow start to win its second state bowling title in three years.
In the team bracket, Beavercreek defeated St. Mary's Memorial 3-2 and Big Walnut 3-1, setting up for the championship game against Avon Lake. It took two games each before the Beavers hit 222 at HP Lanes in Columbus, easily surpassing Avon Lake's 169.
Fairmont was eliminated early in the championship round with a loss to Avon Lake, but Firebirds senior Isaiah Shannon won the DI state individual title in the 743 series. For Shannon, consistency was the key: 251 games, 237 games, 255 games.

cincinnati reds
What fans will see on opening day at Great American Ball Park today is not at all what manager David Bell and President of Baseball Operations Nick Krall had in mind.
The inevitable injury bug greatly affected the 26-man roster the Reds had planned for the Cincinnati pomp and opening day situation.
The biggest changes in 2024 will be in the bullpen, with closers Alexis Diaz, Lucas Sims, Buck Farmer, Fernando Cruz, Tejay Antone, and Justin Wilson, as well as the likes of Brett Suter and Emilio Pagan. Major reinforcements will be made.

April arrival: Dayton Dragons
The Dragons open the 2024 season on April 5th against the Lansing Lugnuts at Day Air Ballpark.
Improvements to Day Air Ballpark's baseball field and other stadium facilities are nearing completion as the Dayton Dragons prepare to begin the season.
Construction will include replacing the baseball field roof, playing field and air conditioning system, as well as making improvements to the stadium's seating, sound system, LED outfield walls and more.
