The Arizona Christian School Tuition Organization (ACSTO) was founded in August 1998 with one clear goal in mind: to help families access a Christian education.
“We are helping provide a life-changing education to many students who otherwise would not have been able to afford tuition,” said Sally Henry, ACSTO's communications director.
“Arizona taxpayers can donate to ACSTO through the Private School Tax Credit Program and in return receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit on their state income tax payments. You have the option to do something different with the money you would have to pay anyway.”
After the Private School Tax Credit Act was enacted in 1997, ACSTO became the first school tuition organization in Arizona to use donations to provide scholarships to kindergarten through 12th grade students attending Christian schools in Arizona. It offers.
“ACSTO currently partners with over 130 Christian schools across the state,” Henry said, adding that families can apply for scholarships on ACSTO's website.
In the more than 25 years since ACSTO was founded, the Chandler-based organization has received donations from more than 99,000 taxpayers, awarded more than $352 million in scholarships, and helped more than 46,000 students attend Christ. We helped them attend school.
As Henry pointed out, there is still time for people to take advantage of tax credit opportunities heading into the 2023 tax season.
Interested donors can make their contributions before their 2023 tax return or no later than April 15, whichever comes first.
“For the 2023 tax year, the maximum contribution is $2,609 for married couples filing jointly and $1,307 for single filers or the actual tax owed, whichever is less,” Henry said. He added that people can also donate through the ACSTO website. , by email or telephone.
Henry said it is extremely fulfilling to work for ACSTO and know that the organization helps many families realize their educational dreams.
“I love helping families understand how they can provide a Christian education for their children,” Henry said.
“All parents should have the ability to choose the best educational option for their child in order for them to be successful. For many families, that choice is a Christian school.”
