The United States Basketball Association on Tuesday announced the four-man 3×3 men's national team that will compete at the Paris Olympics.
Canyon Barry, former NBA players Jimmer Fredette, Kareem Maddox and Dylan Travis will return after winning silver medals with the United States at the 2023 World Cup.
Barry, the son of NBA Hall of Famer Rick Barry, is a 3×3 specialist who played in the NBA G League and overseas for four years.
Fredette played parts of six seasons in the NBA with six teams, including two years in China, and was known for his shooting prowess.
Maddox is a 5-on-5 basketball forward who played for Princeton University and overseas for several years, winning five gold medals in international competition for Team USA through 2019.
Travis won an NCAA Division II national title during his time at Florida Southern University and has won numerous medals with Team USA over the past four years.
“Representing your country at the Olympics is the greatest honor,” said Team USA coach Joe Lewandowski. “We are very pleased with all the hard work and dedication they have put into 3×3 basketball. USA Basketball has the highest standards and now the work begins towards our gold medal dream.”
Unlike the standard 5×5 game, 3×3 is played in half court with a 10 minute game clock and a 12 second shot clock. Teams “clear” the ball behind the two-point line after a basket, rebound, or steal. The first he wins is the team that scores 21 points, or the team that was in the lead when time expired.
