ALPENA — The Alpena Public Schools Board of Education voted unanimously at Monday's board meeting not to approve a change order for Northern Valley Electrical Services Co.
This change event was related to additional electrical work performed by NVESI at Besser Lincoln Elementary School and Thunder Bay Middle School as part of the second phase of APS's Safe, Warm, Dry Bonds beginning in summer 2023 .
When discussing whether to approve the change event, board member Andrew MacArthur said the request was not actually a change event at all, and instead of explaining the work the company would need additional funding for, all I brought up that the content is a change event. This form was for work already completed.
“This is not the way business is done,” MacArthur said. “They did the work and now they say we have to pay. Wait a minute. That's not what the contract says.”
Additionally, MacArthur brought up that APS is not responsible for any costs because it is not responsible for the mistakes that caused the additional costs.
Additional electrical work will include the installation of new machinery to assist in the installation of light bulbs, the installation of new machinery to assist in the installation of light bulbs, and the installation of power for existing lights, said Mary Lyon, APS assistant superintendent of business and operations, who was filling in for APS Superintendent David Rabideau. It reportedly consisted of shutting things down and installing electrical equipment. Temporary lighting for abatement crews to remove asbestos pipe installations, relocation of existing Enercon wires above the ceiling that were blocking the new office, Roadtec air handler duct system, and additional electrical conduit for the office. and electrical box added SR Door Entry Release Button News says to remove one exhaust fan and rewire and reuse the existing APS store current access hardware at the front entrance to work with the new automatic power opener Now you can. The total cost of the modification was $12,158.84.
“It's architectural, like exhaust fans and extra boxes,” MacArthur said. “I think we will vote against this and punt it back to Wolgast.”
The rest of the board agreed with this assessment and unanimously decided not to approve the event change.
