Valley Stream Central High School District is proud to welcome School Board Student Liaisons for the 2023-2024 school year. Her three students are Gunand Shinde of North High School; Ashley Ann Francis, from South High School; and Mary Youssef of Central High School.
The new liaisons will be selected by the high school building principals, and their nomination marks a shift from the previous VSCHSD board policy of selecting one rotating student liaison from each school to serve on the board each year. is showing. This year and in the future, student representatives from each high school will sit on the board simultaneously to relay concerns and requests from their respective student bodies as the board develops policy for the district.
Gunand Shinde: North High School
“Gnando is an extraordinary young woman whose intellectual creativity and motivation distinguish her as a truly outstanding scholar and individual,” said North principal Robin Small. “She is respected by her faculty and students and combines her warmth and confidence with her willingness to participate and express her opinions.”
Mr. Ganand currently serves as president of North's Ecology Club and National Honor Society. She is a member of grade council, high school student council, and a member of the athlete and student peer organizations. “
Mary Youssef: Central High School
“I am honored to introduce Mary Youssef as Central’s student representative,” said Central Principal Candace Hughesy. Mary is in the top 1% of her class, and she has advanced placements in her classes such as AP Statistics, AP Calculus BC, AP English Literature, AP Government and Politics, AP She French and Culture, and AP Psychology. I have taken many courses.
This fall, she was nominated as a Distinguished AP Scholar and received her AP Capstone Diploma. She is the current student council president, president of the History Honor Society, a member of the Key Club, Library Club, and treasurer of the National Honor Society.
Ashley Ann Francis: South High School
“Ashley Ann is an exceptional individual who has shown incredible dedication to both her academic life and her community,” said Southern Principal Matthew Swinson.
She is a 16-year-old senior at the University of the South and is currently in the top 2% of her graduating class with a 103.97 GPA. Ashley-Ann has received the AP Seminar in Research certification and her AP Scholar Award for Excellence from the College Board. Ashley Ann also helps oversee her 11 Key Club chapters on Long Island.
