GREENFIELD – The local chapter of Psi Iota Xi is proud to announce the first three scholarships to local educators for continuing education.
The sorority's Upsilon chapter awarded continuing education scholarships for the first time this year. The winner was Rachel Long, an art teacher at New Palestine Intermediate School. Rebecca Darling, speech therapist at Weston Elementary School; and Elizabeth Lawson, a library assistant at Greenfield Central Middle School.
Ms. Long received $100 to attend the Indiana Arts Education Association conference.
“Thanks to a grant from Sci Iota Si, this was the first conference I was able to attend and connect with other art teachers,” Long said in a press release. “At the conference, I learned more about classroom ceramics instruction, contemporary art history, and printmaking techniques taught by other art teachers around the state.”
Rebecca Darling was awarded $99 to cover the cost of her annual CEU membership. Speech-language pathologists in Indiana are required to complete 36 hours of continuing education every two years at their own expense to maintain their certification.
Elizabeth Lawson was awarded $100 to help cover course costs toward her degree in IUPUI's Master of Library and Information Science program.
“I manage the library and serve as a book matchmaker, connecting the stories that speak to our students,” Lawson said. “Psi Iota Xi's generous scholarship will help fund future information sources and services courses. I am truly grateful for their investment in my education.”
Applicants must be local educators at Eastern Hancock, Greenfield Central, or New Palestine schools seeking reimbursement for continuing education in the areas of speech-language hearing, art, literature, or music. yeah.
