Dan Schneider, creator of the former Nickelodeon series BooG!e, who played T-Bo on “iCarly,” has spoken out about some of the allegations made against him in the new ID documentary series “Quiet on Set.” He published a 20-minute interview on his YouTube channel. : The dark side of kids TV. ”
“It's been very difficult to watch the last two nights,” Schneider said. “I have faced my past actions, some of which I am ashamed of and regret. I definitely owe some people a pretty strong apology.”
One element of the special focused on having the film crew give Schneider massages on set. Although he previously acknowledged and apologized for his actions in a statement through his team, he spoke more directly about the massage in this interview.
“That was a mistake,” Schneider said. “I was wrong to put someone in that position. It was wrong. I would never do it today. I'm embarrassed that I did it that time. I also apologize to those who were walking through the video village and the area where it happened, because many people who were there witnessed it and felt equally uncomfortable. I also owe them an apology because I may have hurt them.”
Schneider also said that if people are offended by the jokes on his show, the network should edit those episodes. The issue arose when scenes from some of his shows (including “The Amanda Show,'' “All That,'' “iCarly,'' “Victorious,'' and “Sam & Cat'') were criticized. , featured on “Quiet on Set.'' To sexualize young actors.
“All of these jokes that you're talking about are things that the show has covered over the last two nights. All of those jokes were written for a child audience because they thought they were funny.” Schneider said. “Now, there are adults looking back at them through a lens 20 years from now, and they're looking at them and saying, 'Look, I don't think that's appropriate for a children's show.' That's fine. If you feel that way, do what I did 20 years ago and remove those jokes from the show.
“I want my show to be popular,” Schneider continued. “The more people like the show, the happier I am. So if there's something in the show that needs to be cut to offend someone, let's cut it.”
Just yesterday, Mr. Schneider's attorney struck a decidedly different tone when speaking to Mr. Schneider. variety, “Everything that happened on the show that Dan appeared on was carefully scrutinized by the dozens of adults involved and approved by the network.” If there was actually a problem with it, the scene would have been removed, but it isn't and is still broadcast constantly around the world, enjoyed by both children and parents. ”
Near the end of the interview on YouTube, Schneider said that if he could do it all over again, he would hire a licensed therapist and work with child actors before they become famous and what it means to be a young actor. He said he would have explained to them what he would do. And how it might change your relationships with family and friends.
“The biggest thing I would change is the way I treat people, everyone,” he said. “Admittedly, at times I have not been able to give people my best. I have lacked patience. I can be brash, overtly ambitious, and downright rude and obnoxious at times. Until now. It's such a shame that that was the case. As I watched the show, I could see the hurt in some people's eyes, and I felt so disappointed and sorry. I hope I can use my growth and experience to do a better job.”
