Two people were killed and five others were injured in a shooting in Washington, D.C., early Sunday morning, police said.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting was reported around 3 a.m. near the intersection of Northwest 7th Avenue and P Street, near the Kennedy Recreation Center.
The Metropolitan Police Department identified the two people killed as Anthony Brown, 32, of Washington, D.C., and Jay Lux, 32, of Baltimore.
Metropolitan Police Chief Jeffrey Carroll said in a media briefing that the injured victims, all adults, were taken to local hospitals. No information was available regarding their status.
It's unclear who fired the shots or what sparked the shooting, which occurred dozens of blocks northeast of the White House. Police did not release the names of the arrestees or suspects.
The motive remains under investigation. Police said preliminary investigation indicates one or more suspects may have intentionally fired a gun at the victim.
The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a $50,000 reward to anyone who provides information that leads to an arrest or conviction.
Mr Carroll said: “We are appealing to anyone with information relating to this incident, or anyone who may have witnessed the incident, to contact the Metropolitan Police.”
