March Madness: Follow selections live on Sunday as brackets are revealed

Selection Sunday has arrived.

The final few games of the conference championship are scheduled and the bracket is approaching.

The brackets for the NCAA men's tournament were announced Sunday, with UConn announced as the No. 1 overall seed coming from the East.

Houston was the No. 1 seed in the South Region, while Purdue earned the No. 1 seed in the Midwest. North Carolina State defeated next-choice Iowa State and Arizona State to become the No. 1 seed in the West.

This year, the committee faced a tougher challenge than usual in choosing among the finalists. After a few leading candidates made a last-gasp valiant charge and bid thieves reduced the number of spots available, there was a surplus of deserving bubble teams.

Whether you're a hardcore hoops fan, a casual person, or someone who's never watched a college basketball game, there's a good chance you'll be invited to fill in the brackets. If not, take part in our free public competition and fill out the men's and women's slots now.

    • Is Marquette star Tyler Kolek healthy? Even if it doesn't, it's as friendly a path to the Elite Eight as No. 3 seed Kentucky could have hoped.

    • Not only can Iowa State not get the No. 1 seed, but they can't take UConn's spot instead of the top No. 2 seed? Wow. That's tough.

    • Does Drake securing the No. 10 seed bode well for Indiana State to sneak in?

    • Most unfairly high seed ever: Duquesne is No. 11

  • Full participation in the Eastern region of the NCAA men's tournament

  • No. 1 overall seed: UConn Huskies

  • The big decision I'm most looking forward to is who gets the final No. 1 seed, along with UW, Purdue, and the University of Houston. Will it be North Carolina, which won the ACC regular season title and swept two games over Duke to advance to the ACC title game? Or will it be Iowa State, which beat Houston in Saturday night's Big 12 title game and moved into championship contention?

    The overall records for both teams are 27 wins, 7 losses, and the records against the top two quadrants are identical at 16 wins, 7 losses. Iowa State increased its top-level wins and outperformed North Carolina State in advanced metrics approved by the NCAA.

  • 3 easy bubble predictions as bracket announcements inch closer.

    1. At least one of the Big East's three bubble teams will hear its name called. League affiliation shouldn't matter, but there's no way a conference as strong as the Big East would have only three NCAA Tournament teams. As for Seton Hall's chances, I feel it's a little better than Providence or St. John's, but it's very close.

    2. Every few years, the committee sends a message that it eliminates bubble teams from power conferences that don't pose a sufficient challenge in nonleague play. The team likely to fall victim to that this year is Pittsburgh, which ranks 344th in NET nonconference strength.

    3. If there's a surprise team left out of the NCAA Tournament field, it might be Oklahoma. Of his 20 wins at the University of Oklahoma, only two came against teams in the NCAA Tournament. The Sooners have four wins in Quadrant 1; 16 Quadrant 1 game to win them.
