Everything you need to know about Caitlin Clark
Caitlin Clark is this year's varsity player, a sharp-shooting supernova who shoots 3-pointers off the logo, flicks no-look passes through the arms of defenders, and curses everyone who gets in her way. I'm good at saying it. Iowa State is expected to earn a top-four seed in the NCAA Tournament and host the first two rounds. A year after leading Iowa State to the national championship game, Clark is aiming for a second consecutive Final Four appearance, an accomplishment few players have achieved. USA TODAY Sports is following her game closely. If you need to brush up on your Clark trivia, we have a complete guide to all things Clark.
How does Selection Sunday work?
Sunday's selection will reveal the full women's bracket on ESPN, as well as the brackets and locations of all first-round matches. A 12-person selection committee will decide who will play in the tournament, as well as each team's seeding and place to play. Lisa Peterson, Pac-12 senior associate commissioner for sports administration, chairs the women's committee. She was playing in the Women's Pac-12 Tournament in Las Vegas, where many believe USC earned the No. 1 seed with an upset win over Stanford in the tournament championship game. Here's everything you need to know about how Selection Sunday works.
How many teams will be participating in Women's March Madness?

How are women's March Madness bids determined?
The committee uses several different resources to select the best 36 at-large teams, including record and strength of schedule. But perhaps most important is the NET ranking. The NET rankings consider a team's record and resume and rank all teams in Division I. Bubble teams with a high NET (top 25-50) should feel good about their chances, especially if they have a few wins over other top teams. 25 NET teams.
Important note regarding the women's tournament: The selection committee does not consider “quad” wins like the men's. Instead, women have five categories. The committee creates a “team sheet” when selecting a large team. The categories considered by the selection committee are Win/Loss and the following pairs:
- net 1-25
- net 26-50
- net 51-100
- Net 101-200
- net 201+
According to the NCAA website, the committee also considers: bad losses, common opponents, competitiveness of losses, conference record, early and late performance, head-to-head, NET rankings, and Conference records, observables, overall records, regional rankings, key wins, and strength of schedule.
Considering NET rankings and other factors, the committee will determine the 36 best At-Large teams to be selected. There is no limit to the number of teams selected from a particular conference. Here's everything you need to know about how Selection Sunday works.
How are women's March Madness seeds determined?
After the committee selects 68 teams to participate in the tournament, it ranks all teams from 1 to 68. Once all teams are ranked, every fourth team will be evaluated at the same seed line. Example: No. 1-4 are No. 1 seeds, No. 5-8 are No. 2 seeds. The four lowest ranked teams in the automatic qualifier will play the first four games as 16th seeds, and the large bottom four teams will play the other first four games, usually as 11th or 12th seeds. Here's everything you need to know about how Selection Sunday works.
