FRANKFORT — At its March 8 meeting, the Kentucky Board of Education Interview Committee voted to recommend three candidates as finalists in the search for Kentucky's next school board.
The entire KBE will interview finalists in Louisville on March 18 and 19 and hopes to appoint a new commissioner by the end of this month and submit it to the Kentucky Senate for confirmation consideration.
Buddy Berry Editor-in-Chief: Berry has been the superintendent of Eminence Independent Schools since 2010. He began his teaching career as a high school math teacher in Owen and Jefferson counties.
A native of Eminence, Berry holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Northern Kentucky University, a superintendent certification from Eastern Kentucky University, a master's degree in instructional leadership from Bellarmine University, and a master's degree in secondary counseling from the University of Louisville. in Mathematics Education. Graduated from University of Kentucky.
Robby Fletcher Editor-in-Chief: Fletcher is the Superintendent of Lawrence County Schools, a position he has held since July 2014. Prior to this position, he served as an adjunct faculty member and provost at Asbury University. He is an assistant principal and math teacher in Martin County.
Fletcher earned a doctorate in education and a supervisory certification from Morehead State University, a master's degree in supervision and management from the University of Kentucky, and a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Morehead State University.
Jim Flynn Editor-in-Chief: Flynn currently serves as the executive director of the Kentucky School Superintendents Association, a position he has held since 2019. He served as superintendent of Simpson County Schools from 2003 to 2019. Flynn also held that position. He served as a high school principal in Shelby County and as an assistant principal and high school science teacher in Warren County.
Flynn holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Northern Kentucky University, a master's degree in biology and secondary education from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, and a bachelor's degree in biology from Western Kentucky University.
KBE retained McPherson & Jacobson LLC in December to lead the search for the next commissioner. The company has more than 750 supervisors and other officials in public and nonprofit organizations across the country.
Robin Fields Kinney is currently serving as interim school board member until a new school board member is appointed. Upon her hiring, the Board of Directors and Mr. Kinney agreed not to consider her as a candidate for her permanent position. Mr. Kinney has been serving in this position since September 30th.
