There are currently 726 charter schools operating in Florida, serving more than 300,000 students in the state. And as states expand school options for parents, a new study by education experts finds Witherow Brook When it comes to studying philosophy, we find that Florida charter schools are the most in-demand.
The group investigated the popularity of seven alternative education philosophies across U.S. states by analyzing Google search volumes in proportion to population size.
In addition to charter schools, montessori, waldorf & steiner, Reggio Emilia, homeschooling, no schooling and Democratic Party school.
Charter had an average of 40.3 searches per 1,000 Floridians. Charter schools are publicly funded, operate independently from traditional school districts, and offer more flexible curriculum, instruction, and policies. They may also specialize in fields such as STEM or the arts, and parents choose them because they are dissatisfied with traditional schools or want specialized education options.
The second most popular philosophy in Florida was Montessori. On average, there were 38.5 searches for Montessori schools and methods per 1,000 residents. Montessori education, pioneered by Maria Montessori, emphasizes independent learning and cooperative play in carefully prepared environments that promote independence, exploration, and holistic development.
Steiner and Waldorf schools and methods are the third most searched for in Florida, with an average of 34.0 searches per 1,000 residents.
In the United States, Montessori education has emerged as the most sought-after philosophy, with 27 states having the most searches per capita, highlighting a national trend toward self-directed learning and holistic development. . Homeschooling and charter schools follow, with 10 states favoring homeschooling and nine states leaning toward charter schools for their flexibility and professional approach.
