Malay – The Murray Independent School Board held a special convened meeting Wednesday at the Carter Administration Building. Dr. Richard Crouch, Chairman; Sean Smee, Vice Chairman; Board members Robin Pizzo, Adam Saber and Gina Winchester also attended.
The Board adopted the meeting agenda as presented and advanced special recognition of Shannon Hokanson London, recipient of the Region IV Head Start/Early Head Start Staff Scholarship for Continuing Education. Murray Elementary Murray Women's Club Essay Contest Winners Sarah Ridley, Ellie Rushing, Sami Elmasri, Keller Mathis, Ella Bird, CeCe Futrell, Claudia DeBonis, Duncan Hoffman, and Zoe Williams were recognized. Ta. MHS junior Marli Mehta has been recognized as the winner of the 2024 District 1 American Legion High School Speech Contest.
Assistant Superintendent Whitney York provided an overview of the Murray Works Initiative with Murray-Calloway County Chamber of Commerce Executives Michelle Bundren and Haley Anderson.
MISD Superintendent Coy Sammons provided an update on current renovations at Murray Middle School, including a new roof, LED interior lighting, and replacement windows that will be installed over the summer. “We believe local residents will be pleased with the positive impact on the building,” Sammons said.
Among the action items, the board approved Sunday, May 19, at 2 p.m., as the 2024 graduation date for Murray High School seniors. (K-5) English Language Arts curriculum approval and facility construction waivers to be submitted to the Kentucky Department of Education for middle school renovations were unanimously approved by the Board.
The board held Executive Session 1 to discuss acquiring or selling the property, but no action was taken. The Board entered its second session to discuss the proposed or pending litigation, but no action was taken.
The board has been adjourned and is scheduled to meet at its regular meeting on April 18th.
