ATLANTA — Seniors in Trine University's sports management program have excelled in this spring's sales and sports analytics competition.
Trine will once again send team members to the National Collegiate Sports Sales Championship (NCSSC) to be held in Atlanta on February 26th.
The annual National Collegiate Sports Sales Championship is an opportunity for college seniors to showcase their sports sales skills in a competitive format. In the in-person portion, the student will play the role of an Atlanta Hawks ticket agent in his 20-minute role-play with a sports sales expert.
Fourth-year students Andrew Schultz, David Letang, Connor Arthur and Easton Rhodes finished fourth as a team in November's virtual competition, the highest ranking ever for a Trine team. In this round he had over 70 teams and his 250 students participating.
Schulz finished 5th, Letang 20th and Arthur 26th. Schultz and Letang advanced to the 64-man individual championship in Atlanta, with Letang winning the opening round.
“This is the third year in a row that our students have made it past the first round. This is a huge accomplishment for our students,” said Brandon Podgorski, team advisor. “They use a real sports sales program to compete with major universities, and we are always competitive.”
Four Trine students interviewed for jobs with multiple professional sports teams as part of the event.
Schultz also competed in the National Collegiate Sports Analytics Championship (NCSAC), with virtual rounds held in November and in-person competition on February 21 in Dallas.
Schultz is also earning a Master of Science in Business Analytics at Trine this semester and is the first Trine student to compete in the NCSAC. In this competition, students analyze ticketing data to create insights to present to the judges.
Of the approximately 60 students who participated in the virtual competition, Schultz finished 18th and advanced to the individual competition. The eventual national champion defeated him in the first round.
