San Diego County Supervisor Terra Lawson Rimmer on Monday announced new initiatives aimed at making quality health care more accessible and affordable for San Diego County residents.
Her plan is to increase reimbursement rates for Medi-Cal recipients and reduce prescription drug costs for San Diegans.
Approximately 1 million people in the county, including nearly 325,000 children, rely on CalMedicine's Medicaid program as a “critical support system to protect their health and well-being,” according to Lawson Riemer's office. It is said that there is
“The long-standing problem of low reimbursement rates makes it difficult for people to receive care and contributes to a shortage of health care workers, which in turn leads to more San Diegans leaving the ER and the region's health care system as a whole. and put a huge strain on the health care system,' which affects all of us,'' said Oversight Board Vice Chair Lawson Roemer. “We must deliver on the promise of Medi-Cal and ensure that access to health care is a fundamental right upheld for all, not a privilege limited by circumstance.”
At a 9 a.m. Tuesday Board of Supervisors meeting, Lawson Roemer will present a plan that will “address the root causes of rising prescription drug prices and introduce solutions that will reduce costs for Medi-Cal and Medicare beneficiaries.” The plan also calls for action by the county. ” said a statement from her office.
