President Joe Biden brought his A-game to last week's State of the Union address, and it literally paid off.
NBC News reported that in the 24 hours after Thursday's speech, Biden's re-election campaign raised $10 million, the most in presidential history, according to the campaign. The campaign told NBC that it had received about 116,000 donations from 113,000 supporters.
“$10 million in 24 hours. In the words of the boss, that's BFD,” campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez told NBC in a statement. “The President's State of the Union address reminded us that many of our supporters are fighting for them, and that this election is at stake for our freedoms, rights, and democracy.”
The Biden campaign did not respond to Business Insider's request for comment.
NBC reported that it capped off a fruitful fundraising period for Biden, whose campaign ended January with $56 million compared to Donald Trump's $30 million. NBC reported that the DNC and RNC each have $24 million and he has $9 million.
In his SOTU speech, Biden criticized former President Donald Trump and his Republican supporters, who are the leading Republican presidential nominee, while touting his accomplishments on health care and prescription prices. She also criticized the conservative-majority Supreme Court for its landmark decision striking down Roe v. Wade and promised that women across the country would fight back at the polls.
Following the State of the Union address, the Biden campaign launched a $30 million advertising blitz on Saturday that highlighted one of Biden's key vulnerabilities: age.
“Look, I'm not young. It's no secret,” Biden, 81, says in the ad. “But here's the deal: I understand how to get things done for the American people.”
