Five-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Chris Jones has agreed to a five-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs that includes $95 million guaranteed, his agent told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Saturday night. Told.
Although the specific details of the deal are still being worked out, Jones is expected to sign a five-year deal with the first three years fully guaranteed ($95 million). If the deal is finalized, Jones will become the highest-paid defensive tackle in history.
According to Roster Management System, Jones' $95 million guaranteed is the fourth-most guaranteed amount for a defensive player on his current contract. The top three are Nick Bosa ($119.9 million), Joey Bosa ($102 million), and Myles Garrett ($102 million).
This move allows Kansas City to retain its best defender before free agency begins.
Jones, 29, has been in negotiations with the Chiefs for months, missing all of training camp and the first regular-season game against the Detroit Lions last year.
Returning on a modified one-year contract, he totaled 10.5 sacks on the season, was named first-team All-Pro, won his third Super Bowl, and is now the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history.
The Chiefs are looking to become the first NFL team in history to win three consecutive Super Bowls, and despite speculation surrounding all three, Andy Reid, Travis Kelce, and Jones are currently all in Kansas City. It's back.
Jones, a second-round draft pick of the Chiefs in 2016 out of Mississippi State University, recorded a career-high 15.5 sacks in 2018 and will match that total in 2022.
In 19 playoff games, Jones has only 2.5 sacks. However, he has still been able to influence some games. He knocked down three passes in the Chiefs' win over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl IV, and six in the Chiefs' win over the 49ers again in Super Bowl III. I applied pressure.
