“Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey” swept the Razzie board, winning five out of ten categories.
This slasher film capitalizes on the expired rights to AA Milne's classic story and reimagines the characters from The Hundred Acre Wood as vicious serial killers.
Sylvester Stallone's Expend4bles also won two awards.
Announced the day before the Oscars, which honor Hollywood's best films, it named the Razzies and put the year's worst films to shame.
Organizers describe their awards as “the ugly cousin of the Oscars”.
When it was released last year, the Pooh movie received a series of really bad reviews.
The Guardian gave the film one star, saying it was a “terrifying combination of unscary and unfunny”, while Empire said it was “the worst written and acted in any theatrically released horror film in living memory”. ”
The film won awards for worst visuals, worst screenplay, worst director, and worst plagiarism. Pooh and Piglet, portrayed as bloodthirsty murderers in the film, also earned the title of worst couple on screen.
But despite the negative reviews, director Reece Flake-Waterfield, who was voted worst manager, remained undaunted. He announced sequels to this film as well as other horror films centered around beloved children's characters such as Bambi and Peter Pan.
According to U.S. copyright law, rights to characters are retained for 95 years. The characters can then be legally shared, performed, reused, repurposed, or sampled by anyone without permission or cost.
In early 2024, the copyright on Walt Disney's 1928 animated short film Steamboat Willie expired.
As a result, a trailer for another new slasher movie featuring a masked killer dressed as Mickey Mouse was released on the same day the copyright expired.
A new Mickey-inspired horror game about a rodent covered in blood was also released on the same day.
“Winnie the Pooh” missed out on awards in several categories, most notably worst actor and actress.
The award for Worst Actor went to Jon Voight, the Oscar-winning actress who played an Irish gangster in Mercy.
The film, which follows a former combat surgeon who confronts a ruthless Irish gang who have taken innocent patients hostage, received mostly negative reviews.
Megan Fox won two awards this year: Worst Actress for the horror heist film Johnny & Clyde and Worst Supporting Actress for her role in the fourth installment of The Expendables.
Although Expend4bles is stylized, Sylvester Stallone, who has been nominated 16 times over the years, also won for Worst Supporting Actor.
