MONTEVALO, Ala. (WBRC) – The City of Montevallo is looking to amend its business permit ordinance.
The city said the ordinance imposes additional restrictions on certain types of businesses within certain areas of the city.
Businesses such as pawnshops, CBD stores, tattoo parlors and payday loans will have to follow a new application process to obtain licenses to operate in the city's downtown area.
City leaders want to emphasize that these changes do not prohibit these types of businesses from operating in the city in the future.
These changes allow for further consideration to ensure that if someone locates a business within this area of the city, there are specific requirements that must be met.
This is not a city-wide ordinance and only applies to the downtown area. City leaders say this is just a new addition to the application process.
“That application has specific questions, and unlike most other business licenses, rather than consulting with our revenue officer, we ask for a specific type of license,” Montevallo City Clerk Steve Gilbert said. The business license will be submitted to City Council for review.”
Mr Gilbert said existing businesses of this type would not be affected by these changes.
