Tesla has launched a new Model Y configuration with just two seats. This leaves plenty of space at the rear for transport or custom solutions.
For companies.
The new vehicle was unveiled today in France.
Clément Maguet, senior account manager at Tesla, announced the new vehicle on LinkedIn.
“Tesla has developed a two-seater Model Y with a storage capacity of 2,158 liters and a range of up to 565 km (WLTP cycle). This model is subject to commercial vehicle taxation.”
The new version of the Model Y offers significantly more storage space in the rear and increased range.
At 565 km (351 miles), it's about 30 km longer than the top-rated consumer Model Y.
Tesla has not announced pricing for the new version of the Model Y, as interested buyers should contact Tesla's fleet division.
Additionally, the program is currently only available in France, and it's not clear if or when Tesla plans to expand the program.
In France, two- or three-seater vehicles used for commercial purposes are exempt from TVA tax.
The country currently has about 6.3 million commercial vehicles in its fleet, most of which, as Mage points out, are diesel-powered, and Tesla is targeting that market with the new Model Y.

Electrek's view
I like this. More space, more range, and hopefully cheaper. If your business regularly transports items that fit in the back of a Model Y, you can easily use this for transport.
Some companies can also use the space to customize a setup relevant to their business, like Tesla does with its mobile service unit.
I know France has special incentives for these types of cars, and I hope Tesla extends this to other markets as well. That's a great idea.
