OAKLAND, Calif. — The Athletics, Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) and HNTB unveiled the design for the Athletics' new ballpark project in Las Vegas at the Tropicana site. BIG will serve as design lead and HNTB will serve as sports/hospitality designer and architect of record.
“The collaboration between BIG's creativity and HNTB's technical expertise allows for a truly innovative and bold design while ensuring an unparalleled fan experience,” said Athletics Managing Partner and Owner John Fisher. “We want to further enhance the dynamic atmosphere and vibrancy of Las Vegas.” The Strip creates a welcoming environment throughout Southern Nevada. ”
Located on the Las Vegas Strip, this stadium seats 33,000 people and offers an outdoor feel with views of the city skyline. The tiered design divides the seating bowl into an upper and lower section, bringing fans closer to the game than in traditional ballparks and ensuring a clear line of sight from every seat. His five overlapping roofs, with a design inspired by traditional baseball pennants, open to the north to ensure natural light and views of the Strip, while simultaneously limiting direct sunlight and heat from the south. . The outfield features the world's largest cable net glass window, facing the corner of Tropicana Boulevard and Las Vegas Boulevard. The stadium is currently being designed to include an 18,000-square-foot jumbotron, the largest screen in MLB.
“The design of A's new home in Las Vegas was conceived in response to the city's unique culture and climate,” said Bjarke Ingels, founder and creative director of BIG. “Five pennant arches surround the ballpark, blocking out the Nevada sun while letting in soft sunlight from the north. Huge windows overlook the vibrancy of the Strip and the grandeur of the iconic New York Hotel skyline. All direct sunlight is blocked and all soft sunlight washes the fields with natural light.
“The resulting architecture is like a spherical armadillo shaped by the local climate, yet opens up the life of the Strip and invites you to enter and explore it. In the city of spectacle, A. Designed with passive shading and natural light, Armadillo's architectural response to Nevada's climate creates a new kind of regional icon in Las Vegas. ”
The ballpark will occupy nine acres of the 35-acre Tropicana property. Barrys and his GLPI are working on a master plan for a related resort development. Details of the process, including the tower, location and stages, are expected to be determined in the coming months.
“We are excited to continue working with Bally’s and GLPI on this project. Together we see a unique opportunity for this site and we look forward to seeing this vision come to fruition.” Fisher said.
“The A's has created a stunning design that adds to the rich fabric of Las Vegas' must-see attractions,” said Bally Chairman Soo Kim. “This is a once-in-a-generation project and we are excited about the opportunity to develop a comprehensive site plan at this iconic location. We look forward to sharing more details about our plans in the future.” I am.”
The ballpark plan also supports up to 2,500 on-site parking spaces as well as 2-3 acres of open space extending from the northwest corner of the site to the ballpark's main concourse. The overall parking plan will be determined in collaboration with Barry's and his GLPI. Athletics is also working with Clark County and NDOT on traffic and transportation plans to ensure easy access to the stadium, including rapid bus service currently provided to T-Mobile Arena and Allegiant Stadium. We also plan to work with local transportation commissions on additional services. This not only reduces congestion but also reduces emissions.
BIG will lead the master planning of the stadium design, with HNTB assisting with design and serving as architect of record. BIG previously announced the design for the team's Oakland stadium, and HNTB served as the architect for the Raiders' Allegiant Stadium.
The A's will continue to work with local partners to advance the approval process and refine the ballpark design over the next year. The stadium is scheduled to open for the 2028 season.
