The summit aims to encourage more women to take up leadership positions in sport.
“While some progress has been made in terms of gender equality in sports leadership positions, there are still gaps that need to be filled,” said Raul Rosales, a visiting researcher in the sports management department who is helping organize the event. “According to a 2023 study, only 27 percent of executive positions in international federations are held by women. There may be a variety of reasons, one of which is the lack of information on female role models in sports management. That’s what’s missing.”
Rosales said the 2024 Paris Games will be the first Olympic Games to achieve gender parity in all sports with separate quotas, but there is still work to be done within the industry in managing the sport. Stated.
“This is a huge step forward for participation in sport, but the challenge now is to sustain this commitment in other areas of sport, such as management and governance,” he says.
