Health care administrator Michael Robinson was recently appointed regional health director for the Providence South District, which serves the state of California.
Robinson assumed the role on Monday and is currently leading community health efforts in collaboration with philanthropy and health equity leaders, Providence officials reported. Mr. Robinson will also oversee the strategic direction of community health initiatives that partner with and support marginalized communities across California, including parts of the High Desert.
Providence St. Mary's Medical Center in Apple Valley is part of the provider's Southern division.
“I have been a member of the Providence family for many years,” Robinson said in a written statement. “I want to continue to serve our community by improving access to care and creating programs and services that meet and exceed needs.”
Mr. Robinson's most recent position was as Chief Home Health Officer for the Home and Community Care Division at Providence St. Joseph Health.
During his tenure, Robinson successfully restructured operations to improve the caregiver and patient experience, and was instrumental in implementing a hospital-at-home program in Western Washington. He previously led the Bonn Securities Mercy Health team, Providence officials said.
Kenya Beckman, chief philanthropy and health equity officer for Providence South Division, said the organization is pleased that Robinson will continue to work with Providence in his new role.
“Michael's deep understanding of our community and mission-focused leadership will help us continue our work to eliminate inequities in health care access,” Beckman said.
Providence is home to 51 hospitals, more than 1,000 physician offices, senior services, supportive housing, and many other medical and educational services.
The health system and its partners employ more than 120,000 caregivers serving communities in seven states, including Alaska, California, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas and Washington. Providence has system offices in Renton, Washington and Irvine, California.
