- Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan attended the Ambani family's pre-wedding festivities.
- The couple broke away from their typical understated style and went all-in on flashy luxury.
- On Friday alone, Zuckerberg and Chan wore Alexander McQueen ensembles that cost $22,000.
The Zuckerberg family doesn't usually flaunt their wealth. However, the couple did not hold back while attending the Ambani family's pre-wedding celebrations.
The couple were among the celebrities and wealthy elite who gathered in India's Gujarat state to celebrate Ananth Ambani and Radhika Merchant's upcoming wedding. Anant is the son of Mukesh Ambani, one of Asia's richest men, with a fortune estimated at $113 billion by Bloomberg.
The three-day festival was full of extravaganza, including a private concert by Rihanna and a communal dinner attended by 51,000 people. Guests were also given a nine-page dress code for various events, which may have inspired Zuckerberg and Chan to try a new aesthetic: loud luxury.
Loud luxury refers to bold symbols of wealth intended to attract attention. Contrast this with the more subtle trend of quiet luxury goods that, while loud, don't necessarily scream value.
The Zuckerbergs tend to use subtle symbols of wealth, but paid top dollar for their bold pre-wedding ensemble
Fans who know Zuckerberg and Chan well know that they tend toward quiet luxury. Trends are hard to spot, but one example is Zuckerberg's habit of wearing basic gray T-shirts that cost between $300 and $400.
But the couple's weekend in India was filled with noisy luxury.
According to Vogue, Zuckerberg and Chan kicked off the celebrations on Friday wearing two black outfits designed by Alexander McQueen.
Zuckerberg's black shirt and matching pants were paired with a $7,000 firefly-themed Alexander McQueen jacket. Chan's floor-length gown features bold gold floral accents and retails for $15,000.
The next day, the couple took their style up a notch when Zuckerberg wore a glittering tigress-themed shirt designed by Rahul Mishra, who shared the photo on his Instagram account.
Organza shirts are available on Mishra's website, but customers have to pay a formal fee and come with a hefty price tag.
That night, Zuckerberg and Chan both wore different outfits designed by Mishra, who shared photos from the occasion on his Instagram Stories. Chan wore a two-piece outfit adorned with nature-themed ornaments like two golden birds. Zuckerberg's outfit was also modeled after wild animals, with floral and other foliage designs.
The couple's outfits were not immediately available on Mishra's website, but it's no doubt that they cost a pretty penny. On his website, women's lehenga sets cost him as much as $18,799, and men's sherwani sets cost him over $7,000. Mishra's prices for many of the items on his website are available on request only.
On Sunday, Chan shared her and Zuckerberg's latest outfits in an Instagram post. Chan wore a purple sari with small floral patterns sewn into the fabric, while Zuckerberg wore a beige ensemble with leaf patterns. It is unknown who designed the costumes.
