Clarksville, Tennessee – Registration is now open for the 4th Annual Rural Education Conference. The conference, sponsored by the Center for Rural Education at Austin Peay State University (APSU), will be held virtually on March 19th from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
This year's theme is “Innovating Rural Experiences: Developing Student Leaders, Pioneering Teacher Education Initiatives, and Strengthening Community Partnerships.”
The half-day conference, which is free to attendees, will bring together educators, administrators, policy makers, researchers, and students to discuss rural education innovation. According to the Tennessee Rural Education Association, 49% of the state's school districts are located in rural areas. With this in mind, a session is created like this:o Address the unique challenges and opportunities in rural education.
Conference sessions will focus on integrating AI in the classroom, microteaching, school and community partnerships, and more. Session speakers include higher education faculty, K-12 school leaders, and educational consultants.Full conference schedule available here.
The conference program includes 16 sessions, and participants can mix and match sessions according to their interests. “Rural schools sometimes face great challenges, but they also show great strengths,” said Dr. Cheryl Lambert, coordinator of the Center for Rural Education. “This conference provides a platform to share expertise and reimagine what is possible to create and sustain thriving rural schools.”
The Center for Rural Education, housed in the APSU Erickson College of Education, leads efforts to support K-12 schools in rural Tennessee through research, teacher training, professional development, and community partnerships.
Mr. Lambert launched the Center for Rural Education in 2018 after an extensive career as a classroom teacher and educational leader in rural areas throughout West Tennessee.
