Six teams have qualified for the quarter-finals following yesterday's draw in round six of the Only Sport Scottish Amateur Cup. All two games were completed successfully, and we plan to play again next week to complete the top eight lineup.
This day's performance came from holder Cooper Hearts (Kingdom of Fife AFA), who overwhelmed Doune Castle (Caledonian League) away with a devastating second-half goal burst. They were goalless during this period, but Cooper took the lead early in the second half. A stunning hat-trick from Scottish amateur FA striker Richie Lawson sealed the dramatic victory.
In another clash between Fife Kingdom and Caledonian League teams, Balgonie Scotia 1896 completed a Fife double with a 1-0 win over Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers. The home team converted the penalty into a winner.
Last year's runners-up Steins Thistle (Scottish Premier AFA) once again proved their cup pedigree with a deserved 1-0 home win over fellow Fife club Greig Park Rangers. Stynes won with a close range finish with about 10 minutes remaining.
The highest scoring match of the day took place in Ayrshire where Glenburn Miners Welfare hosted Gartcosh United (Scottish Premier AFA). In the end, the home team won 4-3 in a thrilling seven-goal game.
There were plenty of goals scored in the All-Scotland Premier AFA showdown between Greenock High School FP and high-profile Castlemilk OBC. OBC took an early lead but Greenock roared back to take the lead back at 3-1. Both teams scored again and in the end FP won an entertaining 4-2.
Sandys (Lothian & Edinburgh AFA) were also big winners in the capital, defeating Mauchlin United (Ayrshire AFA) 5-1. The home team dominated from start to finish, scoring three goals in the final stages to underline their superiority.
The final two matches both ended in draws and will be played again next Saturday.
In the all-Ayrshire derby, Unbank United drew 1-1 at home to Shortleys. Hosts Drumchapel United (Saturday Morning AFA) scored late on to earn a 2-2 draw with Gallowhill Thistle (Greater Glasgow Premier League).
This season's tournament looks like it has a lot of potential. The remaining teams in the competition are looking forward to next week's quarter-final draw and will no doubt be aiming for a place in the Hampden Cup final in May.
