RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Goochland resident Samantha Allison Hudler. Admitted making four false reports of sexual assault and aggravated assault. The arraignment took place on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) on Friday.
Hudler, an employee of VCU Health, faces. 2 counts of false reporting to law enforcement;. Those charges were read at 9 a.m. March 1, and her trial was scheduled for Monday, April 8, according to court documents.
An extensive investigation by VCU police found no evidence that the four assaults Hudler reported actually occurred, according to a Feb. 19 university press release.
The investigation was launched following Hadler's latest report. Aggravated assault in Cabell Library restroom.
The other three false reports include:
- Sexual assault at Cabell Library on Monroe Park campus, November 10, 2022
- January 12, 2023, sexual assault at the 8th Street parking deck on the MCV campus.
- Ann Cavell Library attack incident Incident at Monroe Park campus and rape incident in nearby alley, February 4, 2024
VCU police said officers began linking the incidents due to similarities between them. When questioned, Hudler reportedly admitted that all four incidents did not occur.
These reports scared many students as they were moving around campus. In response to the press release on February 19th, some students felt relieved — Some were furious that their lives had changed over something that didn't happen.
“It is essential to remember that false reports to police are rare,” VCU Police Chief John Venuti said in a release, adding that the VCU Police Department is an agency that “starts with belief” and that all reports He added that it means always being taken seriously.
At this time, the underlying motive for filing these reports has not been publicly shared. Additionally, a spokesperson confirmed that as of the Feb. 19 release, Hudler was still employed and no further developments had been disclosed.
Hudler's trial begins April 8 at 10 a.m. in Richmond General District Court.
