“It's been 36 years and we've had countless experiences together. What draws me to it is the love of music and connecting with people,” she said.
“There's a part of me that's still a 14-year-old girl who dreams of making music. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of my journey. You will forever be my I have a heart.”
She sang a medley of her hits and appeared on a huge podium wearing a flowing red PVC dress, then joined the dancers at stage level before removing the dress to reveal a white dress and black thigh-high boots.
Kylie continued her success at last month's Grammy Awards by winning her second award, 20 years after her first.
Other winners on the night included Calvin Harris, who won Best Dance Act;
He kissed his wife, BBC Radio 1 DJ Vic Hope, as he accepted his prize and thanked his collaborator, singer Ellie Goulding.
“Ellie, if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be on this stage this year. What you brought to Miracle was incredible,” he said, referring to the single.
“This wouldn't have been possible if there were other people in the room.”
Miley Cyrus won International Song of the Year for her hugely successful single “Flowers” and Jungle won Group of the Year.
The three presenters performed a skit recreating the hit BBC One TV show by donning traitor cloaks and voting on who should appear next.
They were joined by none other than two of the show's contestants, Ross Carson and his mother Diane, who both lost out on major prizes but rose to popularity after leaving the show.

While the moment was well-received by the audience, some viewers of X's show were quick to poke fun at another aspect of the show.
