Lewiston's Isaiah Harris placed fourth in the 800-meter semifinals Saturday at the Indoor Track World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, missing out on Sunday's final by four-hundredths of a second.
Harris, who posted the second-fastest time of all participants in Friday's first round, was ahead of Spain's Mariano Garcia (1:47.83), Italy's Catalin Texeanu (1:18.13) and Sweden. He finished in the semi-finals with a time of 1 minute 48.18 seconds, second only to Andreas Kramer. (1:18.14).
The top three from each semifinal advanced to the final.
Bryce Hoppel, who defeated Harris at the national championship, won the second semifinal match with a time of 1:45.08.
In the women's 400m final, Femke Boll of the Netherlands broke her own world record with a time of 49.17 seconds.

NHL: The Washington Capitals placed Evgeny Kuznetsov on waivers. The surprising move came just hours after the Mercury Center was cleared by the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program to resume practice.
Kuznetsov has spent the past month in the program's care. General manager Brian McClellan said waiving the 31-year-old Russian was a means to an end to give Kuznetsov a much-needed change of scenery.

LPGA: After the third round of the HSBC Women's World Championship in Singapore, Japan's Ayaka Furue shot a 4-under 68 to take a two-stroke lead.
Furue, 23, posted a total of 10 under par and 206 through 54 holes.
Hannah Greene took second with a 67.
European tour: Scotland's Conor Syme and England's Daniel Brown share the lead and head into the final round of the SDC Championship in South Africa's Eastern Cape with a two-stroke lead over their pursuers.
Brown shot an even-par 72, and Syme, who had seven birdies for a 67, was tied at 11 under.
Liv: Joaquin Niemann made six birdies at LIV Golf Jeddah in Saudi Arabia for a 6-under 64, building a two-shot lead and aiming for his second LIV victory in three races this year.
Niemann had a 13-under 127, followed by Jason Kokrak (62) and Louis Oosthuizen (66), two shots behind.

NFL: The San Francisco 49ers promoted assistant Nick Sorensen to defensive coordinator and hired former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley to a role on the team's staff.
– Andy Russell, a standout linebacker who was an integral part of the Pittsburgh Steelers' evolution from perennial losers to champions, has passed away. He was 82 years old.
The team confirmed Russell's death on Saturday. The cause and manner of death have not been announced at this time.
Selected in the 16th round of the 1963 draft, Russell won two Super Bowls during a 12-year NFL career interrupted by two years of military service. He spent 10 years as team captain and was selected to the Pro Bowl seven times.

Formula One: Max Verstappen comfortably won the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix, taking victory from pole position over Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez.

England: In the Premier League at Nottingham Forest, Liverpool won 1-0 with Darwin Nunez scoring in the 9th minute of stoppage time.
The win puts Liverpool four points ahead of Manchester City, who play Manchester United on Sunday. City visit Liverpool next weekend.
