Highlights of the event at Washougal High School include:
• Jan. 31: Washougal High School students join their peers representing 12 Southwest Washington high schools at the SkillsUSA Regional Welding Competition in Kelso.
“Watching these students apply what they have learned in a competitive environment not only tests their abilities, but also prepares them for the real-world challenges they will face in the welding industry. “It's inspiring to see young welders tackle complex work with such precision and dedication,” said Don O'Brien, metalcraft teacher at Washougal High School. Washougal High School sent 11th graders Gavan McAllister, Gage Leavitt and Noah Wheeler.
• Feb. 2: Future Business Leaders of America students qualified for state by participating in the Winter Leadership Conference at Lower Columbia College in Longview. The conference brought together FBLA chapters from across the region and featured student competitions on topics central to business leadership skills.
• February 16: Students served their first meal from Shoug Shack, a student-run food truck. The initiative will transform the school parking lot into an active mobile learning lab for the first time since the food truck's official ribbon cutting last school year.
This hands-on cooking class provides an opportunity for high school students to apply academic skills such as math and writing in a hands-on environment, while practicing entrepreneurship, culinary skills, customer service, time management, and teamwork.
