Sportswriters rarely cry when a successful career ends. I cried reading Helen Elliott's last column. She's definitely one of the best writers of all time – and I've read some of the best from Brooklyn to Los Angeles.

If ever there was a column written from the heart, it was Helen Elliott's Farewell. I have followed Helen for most of her career at the Times and have found her to have a well-considered and unbiased perspective. Her hockey coverage was, in a word, outstanding. I can't wait for the book.

We say goodbye and thank Helen Elliott for years of writing a no-nonsense column about the L.A. sports scene. Retiring early while preserving her co-worker's position says it all. Congratulations.

Helen Elliott is an icon in LA sports journalism. I will miss seeing her byline. What is unique about her style is that although she reported on teams, events, and the people involved, she never made herself part of the story, as other journalists tend to do. was. Her presence will definitely be missed in the sports section of the Times and in the Los Angeles sports scene.

Calling Helen Elliott a female sportswriter is a misnomer, even though she was a pioneering female sportswriter. She is one of the greatest sportswriters to ever grace the pages of a metropolitan newspaper. period.

Thank you, Helen, for your beautiful and courageous final story and all the stories that preceded it. I have been an avid reader for 34 years. I lost my girlfriend's husband two years ago after 35 years of marriage. Indeed, the sadness may be overwhelming. I guarantee it will get easier in time. I wish you peace and healing as you face the first project of moving your beloved husband's shoes and clean T-shirts one at a time.
