WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – The 23rd Annual Health Fair hosted by MSU Texas Cancer College was truly a win-win situation. What made this event special was that students from the Faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services used their skills to provide free testing and support to the community.
Michelle Wood from Wichita Falls Independent School District shared her excitement as she highlighted how college students created educational booths and put the knowledge they gained in class to practical use. This collaboration allows high school students to witness first-hand the possibilities in the healthcare field, potentially providing inspiration for their future career paths.
Wood said the turnout was incredible, with students from many different areas of the health department enthusiastically participating. Their diverse backgrounds, from nursing to respiratory therapy, radiology, athletic training, and more, enriched the event.
In partnership with MSU, WFISD ensured students had access to valuable resources. Professor Wood highlighted the goal of providing health science juniors and seniors with comprehensive knowledge while highlighting the various programs available at MSU.
“They're all in our health sciences program, so they're working toward a medical assistant or pharmacy or certified nursing assistant designation. And they all say, 'I love medicine.' So we're just trying to make sure they understand that there are options in our community to move forward,'' Wood said.
Despite being an MSU event, approximately 70 WFISD students attended and greatly benefited from the interaction with their university peers and a change of scenery from their usual classroom environment.
