At least 104 people were killed and 760 injured in a chaotic incident in which Israeli Defense Force troops opened fire on hungry Palestinian civilians as they gathered around a food aid truck, the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza said.
CNN cannot independently confirm these numbers.
Civilians searched for food around newly arrived aid trucks as Israeli military tanks and drones began shooting at them on Harun al-Rashid Street in Sheikh Ajline district, west of Gaza City. They were flocking to.
An Israeli official told CNN that the IDF used live ammunition against people surrounding the support truck, saying, “The crowd approached the troops in a way that posed a threat to them, but the troops responded to the threat with live ammunition.” “This case is under review.”
Witnesses told CNN, adding that the rescue truck accidentally hit another person as it tried to flee the area, causing further casualties.
Dr. Amjad Erewa of Al Shifa Hospital Emergency Room told CNN that 40 of the dead had arrived at the hospital.
Dr. Hassam Abu Safiya of Kamal Adwan Hospital confirmed to CNN that 10 more deaths had arrived at the hospital, and three others at Al-Awda Hospital in Jabaliya. Told.
Ahmad Abu al-Fawl told CNN that the number of dead and injured is expected to rise further as debris blocks roads and ambulances cannot reach them, leaving many bodies and people still on the streets. He said it was expected.
In response to CNN, the IDF said, “The incident is under review.”
“Early this morning, as a humanitarian truck entered the northern Gaza Strip, Gazan residents surrounded it and looted the supplies being delivered. During the incident, dozens of Gazans were injured as a result of pushing and trampling.” It was reported. IDF told CNN.
Oxfam International condemned the attack in a post on X, calling it a “grave violation of international humanitarian law and our humanity.”
