Teacher of the Year: A fourth-grade teacher at Pratt Elementary School has been named Sand Springs Public Schools' Teacher of the Year.
Britta Hartman was announced as the district winner during Monday's ceremony. She has worked as an educator for her 10 years, half of which have been at Sand Springs Public Schools.
Changing standards: At Thursday's meeting, the Oklahoma State Board of Education voted 4-0 to approve new academic standards for personal financial literacy and information literacy.
Changes to personal financial literacy standards include expanding the amount of information that must be covered regarding student loans and credit scores. The standard, approved Thursday, would require businesses to explain what a credit score is and identify factors that can affect it, such as payment history. Secondary students also need to be able to compare different student loan funding sources.

The revised standards must be approved by the Oklahoma Legislature before they can be adopted.
Number of emergency authentications: Also at Thursday's meeting, the Oklahoma State Board of Education approved 103 emergency teacher certifications. Since the start of the fiscal year on July 1, the board has approved 4,028 emergency education qualifications.
Connect to source: Tulsa Public Schools will host a community connections session for immigrant and newcomer families Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Casa de la Cultura, 1515 N. Harvard Ave. Sessions are conducted in English and Spanish, with additional translation services available upon request.
Job fair: Bixby Public Schools will hold a job fair at 14901 S. Harvard Ave. on Wednesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Dinner will be served and attendees are asked to pre-register at bixbyps.info/jobfair.
Student performance: In honor of Black History Month, OSU Tulsa will host a Community Youth Explosion on Wednesday from 6 p.m. The free event, which is open to the public, will feature song, dance and spoken word performances by area students in the facility's auditorium, as well as an appearance by Oklahoma Teacher of the Year Tracy Manuel. There will also be food trucks and vendors at the venue.
Safety discussion: The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with Berry Hill Public Schools, will host Internet Safety Parent Night on March 5th at 6pm in the high school auditorium. Participants must register by Friday at bit.ly/InternetSafetyBerryhill.
Stickball and storytelling: Owasso Indian Education will hold a Cherokee Cultural Heritage Festival on March 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Owasso High School West Campus, 8800 N. 129th East Ave. This event is free and open to the public.
Stay home day: Friday is a distance learning day for Broken Arrow and Jenks. No classes will be held on Fridays at Catoosa or Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences.
Board of Education calendar: The Tulsa Public Schools and Tulsa Tech School Boards of Education are scheduled to meet Monday.
KIPP Tulsa's board of directors is scheduled to meet Tuesday.
