📺”Chad Powers”: Glen Powell will star in Hulu's new comedy series based on the character of Eli Manning's Chad Powers, who has taken the internet by storm.
🏒 9 times in a row: The Rangers defeated the Devils 5-1 on Thursday, winning nine straight, one shy of a franchise record.
⚾️ Pujols' new gig: Albert Pujols will be the new manager of Los Leones del Escogido, a Dominican winter league team based in his hometown of Santo Domingo.
🏀 Who is the real scorer?
Caitlin Clark scored 24 points on Thursday; Her historic total reached 3,593. 57 more until she passes Lynette Woodard Jeff writes.
Records and “records”: Clark broke Kelsey Plumb's all-time NCAA scoring record last week, but some believe Wooder, who scored 3,649 points at Kansas from 1977 to 1981, is the true record holder.
Why is there a contradiction? The NCAA does not recognize individual statistics recorded before it began administering the women's sport in the 1981-82 season, the year after Woodard graduated.
-
However, there are some inconsistencies in how that rule is applied. Take Stanford's Tara VanDerveer, recognized by the NCAA as the winningest coach in DI history.
-
She passed Mike Krzyzewski in January, even though she had won 59 games at Idaho State and Ohio State before the 1981-82 season. Without them, she would still be following Coach K.
-
Vanderveer believes Woodard is the true record holder, she told the Journal this month ($), and many other women's basketball legends agree.
What they are saying: “I think we should value our history just as men value their history.” [theirs]'' Woodard told the Journal. “I know the players on the men's team and I know them well. But we're working hard to eliminate people on the women's side.”
-
“The NCAA put all the pre-1982 athletes on the back page,” former Kansas coach Marian Washington told R1S1 Sports.
-
“They distorted the history of women's basketball, and that can never be tolerated.”
Woodard's Hall of Fame history: The Wichita native was a four-time All-American at the University of Kansas, accumulating a ton of points with no 3-point line and a ball that had not yet been shrunk to fit women's hands.
-
She captained the gold medal-winning team at the 1984 Olympics and became the first female member of the Harlem Globetrotters in 1985.
-
Woodard came out of retirement in 1997, played two seasons in the newly formed WNBA, and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2004.
In related news… Grace Beyer scored 40 points Thursday for the College of Health Sciences and Pharmacy, putting her 15 points away from breaking the NAIA scoring record (3,855 points). Yahoo Sports' Jeff Eisenberg profiled Beyer earlier this month.
🏈 CFP is already discussing a 14 team model
CFP 12-team playoff It will debut next season, and officials are already talking about expanding it further.
From Dan Wetzel of Yahoo Sports:
Ideally, the people who run the College Football Playoff would not discuss the soon-to-be-expanded College Football Playoff expansion before the soon-to-be-expanded College Football Playoff is officially expanded.
Again, this is college football. Nothing seems to be happening on time, fast or slow.
On Tuesday, the format for the expanded 12-team playoffs to determine the 2024 and 2025 champions was finally announced just six months before the season begins.
By Wednesday, the contenders (which is becoming just the Big Ten and SEC) presented options to expand it to 14 teams after 2026. The proposal includes additional automatic qualifiers, unequal revenue distribution, and all sorts of other ideas that would benefit the Big Ten and the SEC.
Jumping from four teams to 12 teams is already a shock to the system. It's almost certainly better, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to take it for a test drive.
However, the Big Ten and SEC remain uncertain about how the selection process will go, how the regular season will be affected, how home-field playoff games will work, and how the college football calendar will reach its 300th day. They are reluctant to know whether it will be extended or not. A new year is a good idea. Next season's title game will be held on January 20th.
There is power to grab and guaranteed money. why wait?

⚽️ Messi Tour 2024
When Messi arrived in Miami last summer, MLS's other 28 clubs have begun pitching to the league office, hoping to be among the dozen or so teams that will host the GOAT in 2024, when he will play his first full season in the United States.
“They nudged and appeased league officials more relentlessly than ever before because they knew a date with the GOAT could boost annual revenue by double-digit percentages.” [and] For some clubs, it generates more ticket revenue than the other 16 home games combined.'' – Henry Bushnell, Yahoo Sports
How the schedule was created: Of Miami's 34 games this season, 28 will be played home-and-home in the Eastern Conference. The remaining six games (three home, three away) were league-selected, with MLS ultimately awarding those away games to Los Angeles (this Sunday), Kansas City, and Vancouver.
Messi Tour 2024:
Strictly business: After the MLS schedule was announced in December, the Galaxy spent several weeks selling exclusive season ticket memberships and six-game packages. To secure a seat for Messi, he also had to pay for at least five other matches.
