A 28-year-old police officer has been charged with the murders of missing Australian TV personality Jesse Baird and her boyfriend Luke Davis.
Detectives launched a frantic search after the couple's bloody items were discovered in a bin in a Sydney suburb on Wednesday.
Baird's ex-girlfriend, Beau Lamarr, is being sought by police and turned himself in for questioning on Friday.
Detectives have not yet found the men's bodies or confirmed the cause of death.
Police allege the couple were murdered inside Jesse Baird's home in the Sydney suburb of Paddington on Monday and their bodies were transported in a white van.
Witnesses told investigators they heard “screaming” and “arguing” that morning, and a rented van was seen on surveillance footage at the scene that evening. The van was discovered in Sydney's south on Friday morning.
New South Wales Police said bullets matching Beau Lamarre's work-issued gun were found at the Paddington crime scene, as well as a “substantial” amount of blood and overturned furniture.
Although he did not report for work on Tuesday, the senior constable's gun was later found in a safe at the police station, Detective Inspector Daniel Doherty told reporters.
Police also seized bloody clothing, a phone and credit cards from an industrial bin in Cronulla, 28km from the crime scene, and a number of items from a house in Balmain.
Det Supt Doherty said Beau Lamarre was also believed to have traveled to Newcastle, 170km north of the scene of the crime, at the time of the alleged murder.
He said the information gathered so far from Beau Lamarre had been “useless” in the investigation, but tips from the public had been of great help. He reiterated his appeal to anyone with information to contact police.
“It is vital that we locate the bodies, not only to determine the cause of death, but also to get answers for the families… They are clearly devastated,” Detective Supt Doherty said. Ta.
Mr Baird was a presenter and red carpet reporter on Network 10's morning show Studio 10 until the show was canceled in December, while Mr Davis was a flight attendant for Qantas.
Their happy photos have been widely shared on social media, and condolences have been pouring in since their disappearance.
Beau Lamarr joined the police force in 2019 and was previously a celebrity blogger who met stars such as Taylor Swift, Harry Styles and Miley Cyrus.
His many encounters with celebrities were reported in the Australian media, including a magazine where he was asked if he was “Australia's biggest fan?”
Detective Inspector Supt Doherty did not give a motive for the crime, but said the relationship between the officer and Jesse Baird had ended “a number of months ago” and “that is clearly the subject of an investigation”.
Beau Lamarr was denied bail and appeared in court Friday afternoon.
