TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – Officials with the Crimson Tide Sports Network released a statement Thursday night regarding the departure of longtime broadcaster Eli Gold.
Gold appeared on WBRC's Good Day Alabama Extra with Janice Rogers and Mike Dubberly on Thursday morning and spoke at length about leaving college for the first time in 35 years.
Gold said he was offered to broadcast the 2024 Aday Games, but the offer had conditions.
“There were papers they wanted me to sign and papers that would almost prohibit me from speaking in interviews like this. I didn't feel comfortable signing that. I wanted to be able to tell the truth. It is.”
“I kind of knew something was going on,” Gold said. “Even when I came back from cancer last year, I was healthy, my doctor cleared me, and the university only let me play home games. Then they added a road game at Auburn, the Iron Bowl. . But I could tell something was going on.”
