At least one person was killed and several others injured in a shooting on a highway on the outskirts of Jerusalem in the occupied West Bank on Thursday, Israeli authorities said.
According to the Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency rescue team, a man in his 20s died in the incident. Five other people were shot, and one woman in her 20s is said to be in critical condition.
MDA said a sixth person was also injured, but did not say how he was injured.
Israeli police said in a statement that three gunmen opened fire near the Azaim checkpoint after arriving by car from the Ma'ale Adumim settlement area toward Jerusalem.

The shooting occurred near the Israeli settlement of Ma'ale Adumim.
They “began firing M-16 automatic weapons at civilians in a vehicle” waiting in traffic, the statement said.
Police described the gunmen as terrorists and residents of the Bethlehem area, but no further information was given on who the gunmen were.
It added that security forces “neutralized” two of the gunmen and one who “tried to flee” at the scene.
