E-commerce entrepreneurs on Monday called for automation of the NBR, customs and related departments, and improvement of the logistics sector for the sustainable development of online markets.
In a meeting with the Standing Committee on Global E-Commerce of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, he said that despite being a new field, online business has gained some ground in the country and now it needs to be maintained. .
Shami Qaiser, vice-chairman of FBCCI and president of Bangladesh E-commerce Association, said, “We are facing several problems in cross-border online business. Although the problems have been identified, there is no complete solution. It hasn’t happened yet.” He said.
“With the right policies, including automation of customs, NBR, VAT and taxation, this sector will go a long way,” said FBCCI Chairman Mahbubul Alam.
He further said that the industry association is sincere about the development of e-commerce.
FBCCI Executive Vice President Amin Helali pledged all possible support to the e-commerce association, but warned against abusing the technology to avoid harm to businesses.
Syed Sadat Almas Kabir, former chairman of Bangladesh Software and Information Services Association (Basis), stressed on facilitating digital or online payments to help further growth in this sector.
He advised consultation with relevant stakeholders, including logistics and courier service associations, in formulating appropriate development guidelines.
FBCCI Director BM Shoaib urged e-commerce entrepreneurs to focus not only on foreign products but also on domestic products and their branding.
Speakers who participated in the public discussion highlighted various proposals for business development in Bangladesh, including market research and the development of an international base for logistics facilities.
Muhammad Abdul Waheed, Chairman of the FBCCI Standing Committee, presided over the meeting.
