BURNSVILLE, MN — Two police officers and an emergency worker were killed Sunday morning in Burnsville, according to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
Other officers were also injured, Walz said.
Dakota County dispatch officials said earlier that authorities had responded to a “weapons incident” in the area.
The county dispatch provided few other details, but there was a significant law enforcement presence in the 12000 block of 33rd Street. WCCO crews saw fire trucks, ambulances, police, and SWAT vehicles at the scene. Multiple bullet holes were visible in the windshield of one of the SWAT vehicles.
Walz said authorities were “responding to a call of a family in danger.”
Neighbor Jason Skogg said he heard what sounded like firecrackers or flashbang grenades and what sounded like gunshots around 5 a.m. He said police asked residents to evacuate to designated areas.
