Sunday's game was the most-watched game in Super Bowl history.
Approximately 123.4 million people tuned in across multiple platforms, including CBS, Paramount+, Univision, and Nickelodeon, and featured commentary from SpongeBob SquarePants and his friends. In total, more than 200 million people watched at least part of the game, according to CBS, which cited data from Nielsen and Adobe Analytics.
The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime on Sunday to win their second consecutive Super Bowl title.
Ratings were up 7% from last year's championship game, which held the record for most-watched Super Bowl at the time.
Sunday's game was also the most-watched telecast on a single network, according to CBS.
Approximately 2.2 million people watched the game on Univision, making it the most-watched Spanish-language broadcast of the Super Bowl, according to CBS.
There may be several factors contributing to the high viewership. Earlier this month, Nielsen expanded its “out-of-home” viewer count to all 50 states, including viewers in airports, hotels and bars.
Additionally, the game went into overtime and Taylor Swift, who is dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, was also in attendance, as she has been for much of the season.
