Business picked up on the PGA Tour this week as the league's best players battled it out at TPC Sawgrass for the 2024 Players Championship. Following a commemorative event to get the PGA Tour back on track after a slow start to the season, the most notable host tournament will fall just over a month before the start of the major season with the 2024 Masters.
Scottie Scheffler, who won last week's Arnold Palmer Invitational and is the reigning Players Champion, is the proper favorite and he continues to put up a tough fight. persistent neck injurysomehow remains controversial as 1 of 6 players most likely to flip 54-hole leader Xander Schauffele.
Schauffele is looking for the most important win of his young career (and his first in two years). Other than Jon Rahm and 2022 champion Cameron Smith, who have both left the league, Tiger Woods is the most notable absentee from the field this week. It was a bit of a surprise that Woods didn't commit to The Players, especially considering it was his last year of automatic eligibility. Tiger claims he wants to play at least once a month in 2024, and he expects to suit up in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., after missing the Genesis Invitational due to an alleged illness (not injury-related). I was worried. Instead, it looks like Woods may play just 1.5 rounds of competition this year before heading to Augusta National for the Masters.
Attending The Players is a dream for many, but just being able to watch the event live from your home or office is an incredible treat each year. We at CBS Sports are excited to bring you full coverage on Sunday.
