Virginia Tech's 24th Annual Graduate Education Week is scheduled for March 25-29 and will spotlight the work of more than 7,000 graduate students across all of Virginia Tech's colleges and campuses.
This year's theme is fun and thoughtful questions. “What is your superpower?” At Virginia Tech, graduate students learn about it in a variety of ways, including teaching in the classroom, researching in the lab, and providing critical support to a myriad of programs. Demonstrates superpowers.
Universities across the country host Graduate Education Week to emphasize the importance of graduate education and raise awareness of graduate students' contributions to teaching, research, and service. As an R1 university and considered one of the most research-intensive institutions in the nation, with at least 20 Ph.D. I am relying on you. onwards.
The Graduate School has several activities planned for graduate students. This service includes virtual events and workshops.
On March 27, student research will be the highlight of the day-long annual research symposium hosted by the Graduate and Professional Student Senate. The symposium is open to the public and will include poster sessions and presentations.

Monday, March 25th
Accepted… now what? 1pm, Zoom
This new student event provides information about graduate school schedules, next steps, and an opportunity to ask questions about the university, program, community, and more. Registration required.
Demystifying ETD reviews7 p.m., Zoom
Graduate School staff provide tips and guidance to students who are nearing completion of their degree and preparing to submit their electronic thesis or dissertation for review. Registration is required.
Tuesday, March 26th
find your superpower10:30 a.m. to noon, Graduate School Life Center Room B
Participants will learn what Gallup's top five CliftonStrengths mean to those around them personally and collectively. Identifying these strengths helps students realize how they can and do demonstrate in their decision-making and interactions with others. The workshop will be held on Friday, March 29th at the same time and location.
Workshop participants must complete Gallup's CliftonStrengths assessment prior to the workshop. Registration is required.
Become a super negotiator11 a.m.-noon, Zoom
Career and Professional Development will lead this workshop to identify the factors involved in career decisions and information on how to negotiate them. Participants will also learn about web-based tools for determining cost of living and salary ranges. Registration required.
Building a growth mindset3-4 p.m., Graduate Life Center Room C
The Hokie Wellness team will discuss developing a growth mindset and identifying beliefs about intelligence and ability, while exploring concepts such as receiving feedback, using supportive self-talk, and the power of effort. Register online.
Graduation Movie Night at the Lyric: “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” Lyric Theater, Blacksburg
Graduate students can enjoy an evening watching movies, complimenting The Graduate School and The Lyric. Students can obtain free tickets in Room 120 of the Graduate Life Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. From March 18th. One ticket per graduate student.

Graduate and Professional Student Senate 40th Annual Research Symposium and Exhibition, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Graduate Life Center Multipurpose Room and Conference Room
Research symposiums and exhibitions showcase the research work of Virginia Tech's full-time and part-time graduate students and highlight academic pursuits and achievements across universities and disciplines. Learn more and find a schedule of events.
How to use iThenticate, 6pm, Zoom
In this session for graduate students and faculty, participants will learn how to navigate the iThenticate software, submit documents for review, and evaluate texts flagged for revision or exclusion. Register online.
