BISMARCK, N.D. (KXNET) — With college tuition rising every year and student loans becoming more common, many students are looking for ways to make some extra cash.
A program for MHA registered members that has been saving students money for 10 years. That is the MHA Educational Grant Program. It is funded by the tribe and helps MHA members continue their education.
There is no limit to the number of recipients, and 840 people received the benefits this spring. There are no age restrictions either. We support students from pre-school to graduate school.
Grants Director Kayla Rhone said the grants not only improve the lives of recipients, but can also strengthen tribal communities.
“We have a large number of graduates, many of whom have a common goal of returning to the reservation to help. I am a prime example of that and a recipient of the Education Grant.” said Kayla Rhone, MHA Educational Grants Director.
“I used this grant to get my master’s degree and now I’m working for the tribe and using the skills I learned in school to help other members. I know it's very much the same. Tons of graduates are working for the tribe in some way.”
Rhone said preschoolers could receive more than $5,000 and college students could receive more than $16,000.
If you are a registered member of MHA, you can earn a scholarship simply by applying online. To maintain your scholarship, you must maintain a “C” average.
